Scotland’s top Sunday roasts of the year have been named in a prestigious guide.

People across the country love a Sunday roast. Whether you’re cooking at home, or heading to a pub or restaurant, nothing beats a traditional roast at the end of the week.

On Wednesday, The Good Food Guide published its annual list of the ’50 Best Sunday Roasts’ across the UK. Overall, four Scottish eateries are included on the roundup.

The Coorie Inn in Muthill is among the restaurants that serves up the best Sunday roasts in the country according to The Good Food Guide. The restaurant with rooms offers either roast top rump of Scottish beef or Perthshire pork loin, with Yorkshire puddings, beef fat roast potatoes, root vegetables, and more served on the side.

The Good Food Guide states: “The vibe is cosy, friendly staff seldom miss a beat, and the food is as local as possible. Among the delicious offerings, you might find loin of Perthshire pork, roast top rump of Scottish beef or whole roast corn-fed chicken to share.”

Elsewhere, steak and seafood restaurant Hawksmoor Edinburgh is also included on the guide. Its ‘slow roast rump’ is served with beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, greens, roasted garlic, and and lashings of bone marrow and onion gravy.

The experts wrote: “Like its siblings in London, Manchester and Liverpool, this branch of the Hawksmoor steakhouse group shows off flavoursome cuts of dry-aged native beef at its hugely popular Sunday lunch, when a whole rump is slow-cooked over charcoal, then finished in the oven.”

Moving over to Glasgow, both Porter & Rye and The Loveable Rogue West End are included on The Good Food Guide’s roundup. The former is a New York-influenced eatery that specialises in dry aged beef, while The Loveable Rogue is a gastropub that serves twists on Scottish classics.

Porter & Rye’s Sunday roast consists of roast beef and braised ox cheek, with sides such as beef dripping Yorkshire puddings, honey glazed carrots, and creamed cabbage with smoked pancetta. The Good Food Guide praised it as “soft and delicious” and “incredibly rich”.

Meanwhile, The Loveable Rogue West End’s Sunday roast includes Speyside beef, Yorkies, beef fat garlic roasties, brisket mac ‘n’ cheese, honey root veg, and red wine gravy. The experts called it “spectacular”, while praising the “amazingly friendly” service.

The overall UK-wide winner was The Abbey Inn in North Yorkshire, owned by three-time Great British Menu champion Tommy Banks. Meanwhile, Lagom at Hackney Church Brew Co in Hackney won the Best Value Sunday Roast award.
