A woman was left stunned after meeting a pair of twins who shared the ‘exact same name’, prompting her to question the reasoning behind their parents‘ choice.

Sharing her story on Reddit, she explained how during her work she met adult twins who introduced themselves with identical first names and very similar middle names.

She said: “In my professional life recently I encountered adult twins with the exact same name! Their middle names were different but very similar. Not their real names, but an example would be: Twin 1: Jane Richelle Doe Twin 2: Jane Rochelle Doe. Absolutely Wild.”

This discovery led her to ponder why the twins hadn’t opted to change their names as adults to forge individual identities. The anecdote sparked a flurry of comments on social media, revealing this wasn’t a unique instance. One user recalled: “I once saw an announcement for twins: Nicholas Ray and Nicole Rae.”

In turn, the original poster humorously criticised their parents for a “real lack of creativity”. Another shared a similar naming story, writing: “I know a woman named Tammy Raye, named for her father, Tommy Ray. I thought that was terrible. This is so much worse.”

Additionally, one commenter highlighted the practical inconvenience of such naming choices, saying: “Damn. I wouldn’t even give my kids the same initials, twins or not. Every time you get mail for J. Do you have to guess who it’s for. in my family we already have issues with L. Last name and I. Last name because they’re so similar, they often accidentally open each others mail.”

Sharing a similar experience, another person said: “My dad, my brother and I all have names that start with the letter P. So when mail comes that’s just addressed as P. (Surname) We got to have the “which one of us opens this? ” conversation.”

Meanwhile, one more person chimed in: “My dad’s parents decided that their five children’s names should all start with the letter ‘R’. Once my dad started receiving mail, he gave his name as ‘Quentin’ so he’d know it was his letter landing on the doormat!”
