Celtic diehard Alan Brazil caused panic among his fellow Parkhead fans after claiming he’d received an ominous text surrounding Brendan Rodgers.
But the 65-year-old instantly cooled his own rumour linking the Irishman with West Ham as he hinted it was his pal pulling his leg. However, Celtic fans will have wished he came to that conclusion before he blurted out Rodgers as a potential successor to under-fire Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui. West Ham have been beset by underwhelming displays and fans have demanded more. Lopetegui reportedly has two games to save his job.
And now Brazil has put the cat among the pigeons but on-air sparring partner Gabriel Agbonlahor is utterly convinced the Celtic leader is going nowhere with the Premiership champions fighting on four fronts and in the mix to reach the knockout stages of the revamped Champions League. Rodgers infamously left Celtic in a hurry in March 2019 for Leicester but guaranteed fans he’s in situ for three full years, at least.
The conversation which caused panic: in full
Brazil: “Someone sent me a text last night saying Brendan [Rodgers] for West Ham… What? Brendan Rodgers? He can’t leave, not with how Celtic are playing.”
Agbonlahor: “Not with how Celtic are playing in the Champions League. They have a chance of reaching the play-offs so he’s going nowhere..”
Brazil: “I don’t know if it’s just my mate winding me up because he is a Celtic fan or he’s heard something.”
Agbonhlahor: “I don’t think they’ll sack Lopetegui yet though. I think they’ll give him more time.”
