The toilets at two Main Street pubs in Rutherglen and Cambuslang pub have won acclaim for their quality and standard.
The John Fairweather in Cambuslang was awarded a platinum grading by inspectors in the Loo of the Year Awards 2024.
And the An Ruadh Ghlean in Main Street surpassed that and has been awarded a platinum plus grading.
The Loo of the Year Awards is open to all ‘away from home’ washrooms in any one of the 63 different entry categories.
An entry consists of one set of male, female, accessible and baby changing facilities, in relatively close proximity but not necessarily on the same floor or in the same immediate area.
Loo of the Year Awards inspectors made unannounced visits to thousands of toilets at sites across the UK, in order to judge them, including the two pubs in Rutherglen and Cambuslang which are owned by Wetherspoon.
The toilets were judged against numerous criteria, including décor and maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility, hand washing and drying equipment and overall management.
Toilets can be graded bronze, silver, gold, platinum, platinum plus, or diamond, with unacceptable toilets not graded at all.
All male, female, accessible and baby changing facilities are separately graded and the overall grade is the aggregate grading awarded for the entire entry.
An Ruadh Ghlean and The John Fairweather are managed by Kat Scouller and Shannon Stokes, respectively.
Kat said: “We are delighted with the grading. Staff at the pub ensure the toilets are in excellent condition at all times and it is great that this has been recognised by the inspectors.”
Shannon agreed and was equally as delighted as her counterpart with the John Fairweather’s award.
The Loo of the Year Awards 2024 managing director, Becky Wall, congratulated the management at both pubs on their toilets that “have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained”.
She added that both the Rutherglen and Cambuslang pubs, respectively, deserved their platinum plus and platinum awards.
