Police have taped off a busy footpath along a river in Edinburgh this afternoon.

Officers from Police Scotland were called to the scene near St Bernard’s Well at the Water of Leith at around 2.45pm on Thursday, November 21.

In pictures, shared with Edinburgh Live, the area can be seen to be blocked off with a uniformed officer standing guard near Miller Row in the Stockbridge area. It’s understood forensic officers have been spotted combing the scene and a tent has also been erected.

One passer-by said: “People are trying to walk under the bridge but are being turned away. It’s cordoned off and a police tent forensics are there. Tourists are still taking photos.”

The exact nature of the incident currently remains unknown.
