RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. – West Virginia Department of Transportation said an elderly couple was killed after their vehicle crashed into an administration building at the Ghent toll plaza.
Jeff Miller, Executive Director of the West Virginia Parkways Authority, said the accident happened just before 10 a.m. on Nov. 21. Miller said the driver left the road below the northbound Ghent toll plaza.
The vehicle then jumped the curb in the parking lot, hit a parked car, and ran into the building, Miller said.
The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were killed, but no other injuries were reported, according to Miller.
There was no damage to the Turnpike Toll booths, and WVDOT said all lanes are open on the Turnpike.
