Christmas is fast approaching, with the start of December just a blink away – signalling it’s nearly time to begin the advent countdown. While some may argue it’s still too early, soon enough it’ll be time to dust off those Christmas decorations, including the all-important tree.
Whether you’re a fan of artificial trees or prefer the real deal each year, they’re the centrepiece of Christmas decor, often taking pride of place in your living room during the festive period. The twinkling lights cast a warm and inviting glow that’s sure to get anyone in the festive spirit, and there’s nothing quite like hanging baubles and tinsel on the tree with your loved ones to kickstart the countdown.
But when’s the best day to put your tree up in 2024?
The experts at Christmas Tree World have offered their advice on when you should deck the halls this year. Advent usually begins four Sundays before Christmas; this year, the first Sunday of Advent falls on December 1, 2024, making it the perfect time to start decorating.
Many families choose to put up their tree and other festive decorations on the first day of the month to mark the beginning of the official countdown to Christmas. But getting the tree up early isn’t just about starting the celebrations – it also has other significant benefits you might not have thought about, reports the Express.
Starting your holiday preparations early can be a fun way to establish your own family traditions at the start of the festive season.
Getting your Christmas tree up early can be more than just a festive gesture; it can help sidestep the bustle of last-minute gift shopping, unexpected drop-ins from friends and family, and the all too familiar frantic hunt for food supplies before the holiday closures set in. In recent times, it’s not unusual to see families get into the yuletide mood rather promptly, with some barely waiting for the echoes of Halloween to fade before their trees go up.
David Sumner, Sales Manager at Christmas Tree World, has commented on this growing trend: “As we inch closer to December, the question of when to put up the Christmas tree is one that seems to spark a bit more excitement every year. Marking the start of Advent on December 1 has become a cherished tradition for many households, signalling the official start of the festive season.”
He added: “But in recent years, we’ve seen a shift where more and more families in the UK are embracing the holiday spirit right after Halloween, using November to create cosy, festive spaces to enjoy for a longer period.”
