I’m A Celebrity’s Dean McCullough was backed by his best mate, Rachel Todd, on ITV’s Lorraine show on Thursday.

Dean has been tackling the majority of the nerve-wracking Bushtucker Trials, but hasn’t managed to win any stars for his campmates.

This week saw Dean face the ghastly challenge, Sinister Sarcophagus, which had him quitting with the iconic line: “I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! ” Furthermore, Dean teamed up with GK Barry in Drown in the Dumps, yet the pair ended up starless.

During her appearance on Lorraine Kelly’s Thursday show, when asked about Dean’s unsuccessful attempts, Rachel defended him saying: “There’s determination there, he wants to do it, he wants to keep the camp happy.”

She continued expressing faith in her pal: “I believe in him, I really do, he’s had his time, he’s done one on his own and with GK, this time tonight he’s going solo. He’s got that drive, the willpower!” reports the Express.

In the course of the conversation, Lorraine queried if the audience was getting a glimpse of the authentic Dean. Without hesitation, Rachel asserted: “100%! He is the most caring person, he is down to earth, he just wants to be with everyone. I’ve known him seven years, he feels like home.”

Rachel added praising his ability to make others feel comfortable: “As you see him bonding with everyone in the camp, he makes you feel at home, at peace.”

This comes as Dean is set to confront his phobias in tonight’s Bushtucker Trial aptly named Lethal Lab.

After enduring a night of bland rice and beans, the celebs are eager for stars, but things look set to heat up for Dean as he snaps at Geordie pair Ant and Dec during tonight’s gruelling and grotesque Bushtucker Trial.

In the sneak peek of this evening’s show, the Irish celebrity appears distressed while navigating various enclosures. With his head enclosed in a box, Dean’s task is to collect as many stars as he can using only his mouth and tongue, all while being inundated with an unnerving mixture of creepy crawlies, worms, and cockroaches.

An overwhelmed Dean isn’t in the mood for Ant and Dec’s jesting as he shouts: “Don’t tell me anything. Don’t tell me,” which comes as Dec playfully hints at what creepy insect pals are about to join him in his confined space.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! is on ITV1 and ITVX
