Todd Cantwell has sparked talk of a Rangers return after responding to a fan’s social media highlight reel of his time at Ibrox
The 26-year-old only left the Light Blues in the summer after just 18 months in Govan with the playmaker not seeing eye to eye with hardline boss Philippe Clement. Cantwell joined Blackburn Rovers and has featured 11 times this season under Ewood Park boss and former Rangers trialist John Eustace.
But the Englishman, signed by Michael Beale, clearly still has fond memories of Rangers despite how it ended and re-shared a video montage along with a message. He posted: “Such a special club, we had some fun. You hold a massive piece of my heart. Maybe one day again.”
It was in July after a pre-season friendly against Birmingham City that Clement dropped the bombshell Cantwell had handed in a transfer request. And Cantwell said of that: “It was his decision to tell the press that was my decision. We’d spoken internally for a while before the season had finished.
“Ultimately we couldn’t find a happy medium for both. The one thing I’m desperate to clear up was that I never, ever said I didn’t want to play for Rangers. That never came out of my mouth and never would.”
