Celtic-daft TV star Tony Roper plays a starring role in the club’s Christmas advert this year – during which he dreams of playing for his beloved heroes.

The BAFTA winning writer, actor and playwright found fame following various TV roles and made a name during the festive period over the years as a panto star. But this time the 83-year-old – best known for playing Jamesie Cotter in the legendary Scottish sitcom Rab C Nesbitt – is the main man in Celtic’s Christmas commercial.

It’s become a Parkhead tradition to pull out all the stops in their festive feature and stars from the past – including legendary captain Scott Brown and recently departed Joe Hart – all play their part in the latest instalment.

The emotional festive tale follows lifelong fan Joe (Tony Roper) and his granddaughter Lily as they get ready for their first festive season without Joe’s beloved wife Margaret. They go on to experience a very special Christmas where their dreams become reality, thanks to some of their favourite Celts.

The dream starts with current keeper Kasper Schmeichel appearing at his door and includes a team talk from boss Brendan Rodgers and taking his place in the traditional team huddle. It ends with Joe and his granddaughter sharing their dream – before he opens his gifts on Christmas morning with muddied boots and a signed Henrik Larsson book, signed by the Swede and thanking him for his ‘assist’.
