Airdrie Working Men’s Club has pocketed a very special guest to put on a sporting showcase partly in aid of a local charity.
Four-time World Snooker Champion, and Lanarkshire’s own, John Higgins will be performing his terrific talents against eight Monklands residents at the Broomknoll Street venue on Friday, December 6.
The Wizard of Wishaw who, along with his World Titles, has secured three UK Opens among nine triple crown titles, will be helping his old friend Pat McKinney who has “brought the Workies’ [Working Men’s Club] snooker arena back to its former glories”.
Pat also hopes this event can raise funds to the arena’s progression further, while also collecting cash for St Andrew’s Hospice.
An Airdrie Working Men’s Club spokesman told Lanarkshire Live: “John Higgins is also hoping the hospice will benefit greatly from the event as he has a personal affinity with the charity.
“We hope as many people as possible, from Monklands and beyond, turn out for what is sure to be an excellent event to boost the club, and allow us to make as big a donation to the hospice as possible.”
