PITTSBURGH (WPXI) – The city of Pittsburgh is mourning the loss of a battalion fire chief.
Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Battalion Chief John Walsh suffered a medical emergency while in command of a fire on Wednesday night.
He was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Walsh was 60 years old.
“John Walsh was an excellent tactician on the fire ground. He held a command presence that generated confidence and calmness, and more important than that, he was a great family man, a great friend and a great person,” Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. “This is a deep cut. We are not going to get over this easily.”
The city says he dedicated 37 years of his life to the fire department.
