A 22-year-old man was slashed as a bloody fight broke out in a Queens Department of Probation office, police said Friday.
The victim was in the stairwell of the New York City Probation Office on Jamaica Ave. near Guy Brewer Blvd. in Hollis about 1 p.m. Thursday when he got into an argument with another man.
During the fight, the suspect pulled out a blade and attacked the 22-year-old, slicing his left wrist and right arm.
It wasn’t immediately disclosed if the victim had an appointment with his probation officer at the time of the attack.
EMS rushed the victim to Jamaica Hospital where he was treated for a minor wound.
His attacker ran off, cops said. No arrests have been made.
Cops responding to the scene recovered some bloody clothes, believed to belong to the attacker, at the scene. The clothes will be processed for DNA, a police source with knowledge of the case said.
The city Department of Probation has offices in all five boroughs so offenders can meet with their probation officers to ensure they’re working, attending school, or meeting other requirements of their non-jail sentences.
An email to the Department of Probation requesting comment on Thursday’s attack was not immediately returned.
The city Department of Probation is currently run by former NYPD Director of Training Chief Juanita Holmes, who has been criticized for bringing a more law enforcement approach to an agency that traditionally emphasized its social work programs.
During her nearly two years as head of the DOP, Holmes has ordered officers to carry guns, pushed for offenders to be charged more often with probation violations, and slashed funding to well-regarded programs, critics charge.
