The Tartan Army have enjoyed dining out on two prime Scotland victories over the past week.
But tomorrow it’s back to the bread-and-butter of domestic action – and there’s plenty to chew over as the Premiership pressure cooker heats up again. Celtic are at Tynecastle tonight with joint-leaders Aberdeen heading to St Mirren at the same time as straggling Rangers host Dundee United at Ibrox.
Gordon Ashley, Ayr, said: “What a great return to league football we have this weekend with the big two both with tough away clashes and also a big game in the battle for third place. All our teams also have a great chance of making the play-offs in Europe as well and our national team is still doing us proud. It’s a great time to be a Scottish football fan.”
But Charles Maxwell said: “The rest of the league can’t challenge a Champions League team of Celtic’s calibre. And they can forget about them leaving to go down south, the new Champs League format means the English Premier League’s stature is on a downward trend. I feel for the rest of the teams in the SPFL who have no chance of competing with Celtic. Surely the SFA must be looking at creating a new trophy for second spot to give them something to fight for?”
Tim Gibbens emailed in response to Stiliyan Petrov’s claim that the Dons will be no match for Brendan Rodgers’ team, saying: “What Petrov should’ve been asked isn’t whether Aberdeen are genuine title contenders, but if he can actually name any of their players? OK, the Dons may not last the pace, but at least show them some respect for what they’ve achieved so far on a fraction of Celtic’s budget.”
David Gray’s basement boys also have a huge game at Dens and Hibbee Neil Renton, Leith, said: “Being a Hibs fan I’d like to ask the powers that be for more international breaks please. They’re doing my mental heath the power of good not having to put up with the footballing exploits of the Easter Road side.”
The Hoops are back in Europe action this week too with Brugge visiting Parkhead.
Jimmy Murray Edinburgh, said: “I see its started already. Brugge are to be without two of their stars. Next it’ll be, there’s trouble in the camp, then how they are wary of Celtic. Of course everyone will fall for it as they did on the run up to the Dortmund game! Hopefully I’m wrong but I’ve seen it so many times with Scottish clubs. They are so naive when it comes to Europe.”
On the transfer front, Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, called to say: “I’m reading that Celtic are interested in bringing Christian Eriksen in but I hope the rumours are only that – rumours. Brendan Rodgers has continued Ange Postecoglou’s mantra of ‘we never stop’ but Eriksen’s best days are behind him and he’d only slow down our tempo in midfield.”
Liam Birney, Paisley, also said: “I read with astonishment and amusement about reports linking Rangers with Lennon Miller. Some of their fans are saying they should go for him! Did they not read their latest financial report? This utter delusion is laughable. Financial mirages aren’t real guys. You need to start living within your means.”
Ahead of Gers’ showdown with United, Chris Lowe, Yoker, said: “Fresh from yet another VAR mistake that benefited Celtic, Don Robertson is not demoted but awarded the game at Ibrox this weekend to do more damage.
“No wonder Jim Goodwin has a spring in his step as he’s playing with a loaded dice with Robertson and the two serial offenders who are operating VAR.”
