GEORGETOWN, Texas — Buildings in Georgetown are being demolished for possible sale and redevelopment.
According to Community Impact, the Williamson County and Cities Health District, and a cinder-block building next to the historic jail have already been demolished. Now a building added to the jail more than 40 years ago has also been torn down.
It’s all part of a plan near downtown to sell the property while preserving the historic jail. Community Impact reports that the county wants a buyer that will transform the jail into a landmark downtown.
In May, Georgetown adopted its downtown master plan that included enhancements to its historic square, more parking, adding one-way streets, and other traffic improvements.
Georgetown gained nearly 11,000 new residents in 2022, making it the fastest-growign city in the country at the time.
Williamson County is now reportedly exploring options to expand its justice center and jail after outgrowing the facilities.
