A chef has died after collapsing at a recycling centre in Glasgow leaving his family “broken”. Colin James Barron, 44, tragically passed away on Monday, November 18.

Colin, from Pollok, was rushed to hospital after his sudden collapse at Shieldhall Recycling Centre. Medics at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital discovered he had suffered a bleed to the main artery of his heart and placed him into an induced coma, reports Glasgow Live.

Colin’s family, including his wife, parents, siblings and cousins, all raced to be by his side before he was due to be transferred to the Golden Jubilee in Clydebank for emergency surgery. However, at around 4pm, Colin was tragically pronounced dead by medical staff.

Following his unexpected death, cousin Nicola O’Doherty created a GoFundMe in a bid to raise funds for Colin’s funeral and to take financial pressure off his wife – who has three kids – in the lead up to Christmas.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Nicola told of the close family’s heartbreak. She said: “Colin was more like a brother to me, we did everything together, we all did. No one could possibly say a bad word about him as he just had the biggest heart, he was so well loved. We feel broken.”

Colin, who appeared as a chef on STV’s Live at Five, married the “love of his life” Lynn in 2023 and was close with her children Molly, Erin and Harry. Nicola said “Colin was just starting to live life again after finding love with Lynn, we are all distraught”.

Nicola, 42, spoke of Colin’s passion for sports cars, with the family arranging a convoy to follow his hearse at his funeral on December 4. The procession will travel from Colin’s home in Pollok, passing by St James Church, where he recently got married, to Hurlet Crematorium before his burial at St Conval’s Cemetery.
