WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the Outlander books.
Outlander has been missing for more than a year and now its next batch of episodes is ready to debut.
Season seven has been split in two with its first half, which finished airing in August 2023, ending on a number of cliffhangers to keep subscribers hooked.
Of course, fans of the Diana Gabaldon book series will already have an indication of what’s to come with creators confirming that series seven tackles the novels A Breath of Snow and Ashes, An Echo In The Bone and Written In My Own Heart’s Blood.
With Outlander back on the small screen, here’s everything that could happen in season seven, part two, based on what happens in the book series.
Jamie and Claire are separated
The end of season seven part one saw Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) and Young Ian (John Bell) return to Scotland.
However, according to the books, not long after arriving back home, Claire is asked to go to Philadelphia to perform life-saving surgery on Marsali (Lauren Lyle) and Fergus’ (Cesar Domboy) son Henri-Christian while Jamie stays to look after his sick brother-in-law Ian.
After Ian dies, Jamie and his sister Jenny (Kristin Atherton) decide to join Claire in the US and let her know which ship they are taking.
They end up missing that ship though and sail a few days later but this leads to Claire thinking that Jamie is dead after Lord John Grey (David Berry) receives news that the original ship they were meant to be on has sunk.
There is a strong indication that this storyline may change in the TV drama, given that it’s already been confirmed that neither Marsali or Fergus will appear in season seven part two.
Claire marries Lord John Grey
Claire is heartbroken, believing that her beloved husband Jamie is dead with Lord John, who also loves him, also bereft.
A few hours later, the problem worsens as it comes to light that a British army captain intends on arresting Claire for espionage.
In order to protect Jamie’s wife, John marries Claire so no harm can come to her and while their marriage is platonic, in the books, a few weeks later, they drunkenly sleep together both thinking of Jamie.
The man himself then shows up a couple of months later and while they are thrilled, his relationship with them is strained to say the least, knowing what they have done.
Arch Bug returns
In the season seven midseason finale, Arch Bug (Hugh Ross) insisted that he would get his revenge against Young Ian for accidentally killing his wife and found a way to do so when he discovered his relationship with Rachel (Izzy Meikle-Small).
While she is in Philadelphia helping Claire with surgeries, Arch attacks her on the street but is thankfully stopped by William Ransom (Charles Vandervaart).
Arch Bug later tries to kidnap her for a second time but William and Young Ian come to her rescue and result in the villain’s death.
Jemmy’s whereabouts
Roger MacKenzie (Richard Rankin) and Buck MacKenzie (Diarmaid Murtagh) travelled through the stones at Craigh na Dun after believing that Roger’s son Jemmy had been kidnapped by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton) in a bid to find the hidden Jacobite gold.
However, Gabaldon’s novels take an unexpected turn as it’s revealed Rob and Jemmy remain in the 1980s with the youngster locked in an underground tunnel under Loch Errochty.
Rob tells Brianna that she will be reunited with her son if she gives into Rob’s demands for sex.
Roger and Buck travel too far
The pair realise they travelled further back than intended when they are met by Jamie’s dad Brian Fraser (Andrew Whipp), and are in 1739 rather than 1779.
It is during this stint back in time that they meet younger versions of their ancestors including Douglal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) and Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek).
William discovers truth
William may have previously met his biological dad at the Battle of Saratoga but it is only after meeting him again in the novel series that he sees the resemblance between them.
He later discovers that Jamie is his real dad and is not actually the blood heir of the Earl of Ellesmere.
William no longer feels worthy of his position in society and doesn’t know how to handle his newfound heritage or how to be around Jamie.
