CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WLBT/Gray News) – A teacher in Mississippi is no longer employed after giving students what she thought was beef jerky but was actually beef treats for dogs.

Dr. Lisa Langford, the superintendent of the Calhoun County School District, said eight children at the school had at least a bite of the treats during a birthday celebration for a few students.

One of the students did go to the doctor with a stomachache, WLBT reported.

The superintendent credited the school nurse for her quick response after learning what happened.

The school district alerted the parents of the children who had consumed the dog treats about what occurred.

School officials did not release the name of the teacher but said she’s no longer with the district.
