A new study has unveiled Ofcom’s top ten most complained about moments of TV from 2024 so far and there is one clear winner.
The data conducted by online casino review site BetPokies analysed Ofcom weekly complaint rates for each week of this year as of October 2 to discover which programmes received the most complaints overall and on which dates.
The study found that an episode of Good Morning Britain from August 5 ranked in top place with a whopping 16,783 complaints – the most of any show by far.
This particular episode garnered complaints regarding two interviews, which were concerning the Independent MP Zarah Sultana and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper.
Second place on the list goes to Love Island, although with far less Ofcom complaints than GMB at a total of 1,831 complaints. This episode of the ITV reality dating show saw an argument break out during a challenge in which the contestants had to guess the result of a viewer vote which asked them couple were only staying together to win.

Good Morning Britain have also managed to claim the third spot with their show that aired on May 30. This episode received 1,765 Ofcom complaints due to its debate between Mike Parry and Kay Taiwo concerning the XL Bully dog ban.
Meanwhile fourth place goes to a soap which received 826 complaints. The episode of EastEnders which aired on May 27 received backlash in response to an upsetting storyline which included the poisoning of a dog.

Commenting on the findings, John Gold founder of BetPokies, said, “It’s interesting to see the range of programmes to feature on this list, with news programmes sitting alongside reality TV and soaps.
“Many complaints come from channels that don’t directly benefit from the TV license fee, which may surprise some, as it may be expected that programming the public pays for may be more divisive. That being said, 2024 is not over yet, and moments could still happen that could top this list, and it will be worth noting how this changes as the year ends.”
It is important to note that all TV complaints related to the Palestine and Israel conflict were removed from the study and that these complaints figures do not include any date past October 2 2024.
