This is the moment a Scots road was brought to a standstill due to thick snowfall on the east coast as Storm Bert battered the country.
The carnage caused to motorists in Edinburgh this morning was caught on camera, showing vans, buses and cars trapped in a queue of traffic.
The drama unfolded on Drumbrae Drive in the city’s Clermiston area this morning, Saturday, November 23, 2024, with the footage in question captured at around 11am.
In a clip shared with Edinburgh Live, several buses were halted at the top of the road causing traffic to queue behind them. The video shows several vehicles trying to make their way through.
But many were unable to move due to the icy conditions. Locals described the disruption as “carnage”. It comes as Storm Bert hit the capital on Saturday morning bringing heavy snow and rain showers with a weather warning in place until Sunday 9am.
Several car accidents were reported by police due to the conditions and both locals and drivers were warned ahead of travelling. Lothian Buses were forced to cancel their services as the heavy snow triggered severe disruption.
The bus operator said: “Due to adverse weather across the network, buses are unable to continue across their routes due to safety concerns and will be withdrawn until routes are further assessed.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson previously warned: “After the recent weather warning and continued cold weather into the weekend, please be careful when driving through Edinburgh.
“This mornings snow and ice has resulted in several minor traffic accidents across the City which our officers are currently dealing with.
“As a result there is considerable traffic disruption to Drum Brae/Clermiston area and at the Straiton juntion on Edinburgh City Bypass.
“As the snow continues, please consider whether travelling is necessary and if driving, please be careful.” To keep up to date with the latest news on the weather and travel disruption, check out our live blog here.
