Returning pop icons Mutya Buena, Siobhan Donaghy, and Keisha Buchanan of the original Sugababes line-up treated fans to a thrilling medley of their greatest hits on tonight’s Strictly Come Dancing results show.
The trio received a rousing reception as they took to the BBC dance floor, but despite the warm welcome, some viewers felt their performance fell short, with remarks of “underwhelmed” surfacing online.
Renowned for chart-topping tracks such as Too Lost In You, Freak Like Me, and Push The Button, the beloved noughties group appeared in chic black outfits, heightening anticipation during the tense evening.
Social media users, however, were quick to voice their opinions on X, formerly known as Twitter. One fan complained: “Sugababes couldn’t be more out of tune if I sang for them #Strictly.”
Another added: “Well, I won’t be booking tickets for Sugababes any time soon. #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing.”
A further unimpressed viewer remarked: “Sorry, but the Sugababes were totally underwhelming,” as reported by OK!
Yet another spectator lamented: “I like the Sugababes, but this performance is bad #StrictlyComeDancing.”
Nevertheless, it wasn’t all negative commentary; some defended the performance, with one commenting: “Loved the medley from the Sugababes, some fantastic songs…#strictly.”
Additionally, one fan exclaimed: “The looks, the vocals, the talent… the original SUGABABES are everything and more… #StrictlyComeDancing.”
The Sugababes delivered a spellbinding performance to the crowd while Neil Jones and Nancy Xu graced the dance floor.
Fans were glued to their screens as the celebrity dancers showcased their moves, waiting for the announcement of who would advance to the next stage of Strictly Come Dancing.
In an unexpected turn of events, EastEnders’ star Jamie Borthwick was the ninth celeb to be shown the door, missing out on a place in the coveted quarter-finals.
The 30-year-old actor, along with his professional partner Michelle Tsiakkas, faced off in the dreaded dance-off against Montell Douglas, 38, and her dance partner Johannes Radebe.
After both pairs gave their all in a nail-biting second showing, the judges reached a consensus, sending Montell and Johannes through to the next round and ending Jamie and Michelle’s journey on the show.
Jamie expressed his adoration for the experience on Strictly, labelling it as “magic” and extended his appreciation for everyone involved, not just those in front of the camera including the judges and the entire behind-the-scenes team.
With evident affection, he remarked: “Not just everyone who you see in front of the camera, these four here (the judges), but everyone who works on this show, I have such a good bond and relationship with, and that’s what made me want to do this show, it’s the people, not what I’m doing. I’ve had the best time.”
He continued with heartfelt praise: “We have laughed like you wouldn’t believe. I have nothing but the utmost respect for everyone on the show, so thank you.”
Strictly Come Dancing returns next weekend on BBC One.
