Former I’m A Celebrity star Sair Khan admits heading into the jungle was a “culture shock” as she admits she struggled to adapt to camp life.
Coronation Street actress Sair appeared on the hit ITV show six years ago. She has now revealed she shared some words of wisdom with co-star Alan Halsall, who plays Tyrone Dobbs, before he went Down Under.
Speaking to The Sun, she said: “I was straight on the phone to tell him my tips for an easy life. I said to him: ‘If you get a choice of jobs, pick the dunny because you only have to empty it once a day.’”
Sair says the other jobs campmates can be seen doing often take longer. She highlights washing-up as the one chore to avoid.
This is because the campmates have to lug the dishes down a set of steps to the water, clean them, and then ferry them back to camp. Sair however does admit that even with the daily chores, camp life can feel like a lot of sitting around.
She explained: “But it’s so boring there; if you’re not doing a trial, you’re sitting around, so some people want to keep busy. I personally found it really hard, the hanger [hunger and anger] was real, and the unfamiliarity. It was a culture shock for me.
“I didn’t take to it as well as I thought I would. There are memorable moments, but I wouldn’t say they were all positive.”
Luckily for current campmate Alan, Sair says he “loves to sit around”. She also praised her colleague for showing his personality on screen, adding “everyone at Corrie loves him”.
Sair, who has played Alya Nazir since 2014, was eliminated third on the eighteenth series of I’m A Celebrity. Former Premier League manager Harry Redknapp was eventually crowned king of the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! airs daily at 9pm on ITV One and ITVX.
