Concerned Pat Bonner reckons Lennon Miller faces limiting his game time if he leaves Motherwell for Celtic – as he pointed to Luke McCowan‘s example.
Miller was involved with the Celtic academy before making the switch to the youth ranks at Fir Park and is in the midst of a rapid rise with the Steelmen having been the key man for Stuart Kettlewell’s side so far this season. The Hoops and Rangers are said to have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old while Premier League sides Liverpool and Southampton are reported to be showing an interest in Miller with Motherwell aiming to land a £4million payday.
But Bonner reckons that the wonderkid will severely limit his game time if he follows in McCowan’s footsteps with the depth of options at Brendan Rodgers’ disposal in the midfield area. McCowan left Dundee on deadline day in a dream move but has made just two starts for the Hoops so far. Asked by BBC Sportsound if Miller would get into Celtic’s midfielder, Bonner replied: “Probably not.
“When Luke McCowan came in he also made a huge impact. He has never looked out of place because he suits that profile of player that Brendan Rodgers wants.
“They are training all together on a daily basis. They probably train the way they play, and if you are off it a little bit I don’t think you will make the squad.
“They have options, but you’re right, Lennon Miller – brilliant player, great ability on the ball, great passer of the ball but to come in here he could end up not getting in that squad. That would be a shame for him because he has got to keep getting games. He has got to keep going and getting games. That is critical.”
