PRINCETON, W.Va. -Mercer County Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Raleigh County joined together at Princeton Public Library to educate the public on the importance of volunteering at your local animal shelters as well as adopting.
Spokes people for the two shelters discussed what the adoption process looks like and what tasks volunteers have at the shelters.
The Volunteer Outreach Coordinator for the Humane Society of Raleigh County says they are usually always full and have many options for anyone looking for a furry friend.
She continues by saying that volunteers are always needed with the high capacity of animals.
“We always need volunteers. We only have a handful of staff there, and we have over 70 dogs in the facility. So as much as we try to get all the dogs out at least once a day, but some days if we’re busy, it’s just not possible,” said Hannah Cottle, Volunteer Outreach Coordinator for the Humane Society of Raleigh County.
For the Mercer County Animal Shelter, they have started their Barksgiving event to help get animals adopted. This event goes on until November 27th with dogs being $25 and cats at $10. Their hours are Tuesday-Saturday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
