If you’re dealing with grimy pots, pans, and baking trays, one cleaning enthusiast has shared a tip that turns the humble dishwasher tablet into a versatile cleaning wonder. TikToker Georgia (@cleanwithgeorgiia) disclosed her method for using dishwasher tablets beyond their usual use, particularly on two common kitchen items.
In a popular video, Georgia demonstrated how a dishwasher tablet can be used to combat stubborn grime and burnt-on food on oven racks. To utilise this technique, one should soak the oven rack in a sink – or a container large enough to accommodate it – and let a dishwasher pod dissolve in the water.
Leave the rack to soak, and then scrub away the dirt. She also showed them being effective in removing baked-on grime from baking trays by placing a dishwasher pod on the tray and dousing it with boiling water until it dissolves, reports the Express.
Georgia captioned her video with: “Pov: you realise dishwasher pods do EVERYTHING.”
Moreover, she revealed her trick for drains; placing a tablet in the plug hole followed by pouring boiling water from a kettle until the tablet disintegrates, claiming it eliminates bad odours. The video has amassed over 2.4 million views, prompting viewers such as Laura to share their experiences: “My husband is a chef. I put them in his laundry every week to remove grease and kitchen odours. It’s *chef’s kiss*. Pun intended.”
Country Mama revealed: “I never thought to clean the oven racks with them! I bet this would also work on the filter things on the stove hood!”
Yet, Tricia issued a warning: “My plumber told me that even if they dissolve, that residual paste from capsules will stick on pipes and cause a lot of damage. We stopped using them.”
Allrecipes pointed out dishwasher pods feature a special soap formula designed to fight the most stubborn and greasy stains, explaining that these pods can be useful in cleaning washing machines, toilets, stove tops, and even mugs. For proper oven cleaning techniques, it noted: “Remove the racks from your oven. Wearing rubber gloves, dip a dishwasher tablet into a bowl of hot water and then use the flat side to tackle baked-on food and other gunk.
“As you scrub, the tablet will break down and dissolve. Add water as needed to get a good lather. Eventually you may need a sponge to keep working, but soon the oven will be gleaming like new. Don’t forget the greasy oven door.”
