Gatehouse SWI members met for the November meeting and AGM.

President Margaret welcomed everyone and then introduced Elaine Milven, a member of the Quilters of Shambellie House and Machars Quilters. Elaine explained her local family background, that she is a member at Port William SWI and last, but not least, she is a retired police officer.

She enters her quilts in both national and international competitions, however, many of the quilts are made to be entertaining, possibly raunchy and overwhelmingly delightful for display in the cancer department or prostrate department in either Stranraer or Dumfries hospitals. The groups also make quilts for care leavers, older people and folk being discharged from hospital or who have dementia. There is a quilt exhibition from September 19 to October 4 next year at Shambellie House open to the public and Elaine urged members to go along.

Elain’e holiday to South Africa has inspired some of her work and will continue to be the subject of future quilts. She brought many of her quilts to show and members took the opportunity to have a close look at the beautiful work, some which have taken her years to complete.

Margaret thanked Elaine for such an interesting, fun and entertaining talk which was much appreciated.

Margaret also thanked Catherine and Nancy for providing the refreshments.

Margaret then dealt with AGM business and thanks were given to committee members.

Kathleen ensured everyone had a menu for Christmas lunch on December 17 at the Galloway Lodge and that the Christmas Quiz team were prepared for December 2 at Twynholm.
