BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -The annual Holiday of Lights 5K Race has returned to Bluefield City Park.
Despite the rain and cold weather, runners gathered on Saturday, November 23 for this festive race under the lights.
During the event runners travelled a path through the light display the park builds every year.
“It’s just good to see the community come out and socialize and get together and enjoy the holiday lights. It’s a staple in our town and people just love getting into the Christmas spirit,” says Justin Hawkins, Program & Special Events Coordinator for the City of Bluefield Parks & Recreation Department.
Runners dressed up in all kinds of holiday garb, making the race all the jollier. Staff and race participants alike seemed thrilled by the event.
“It’s just a kickoff of the start of the holiday and I’ve done this for several years in a row. This is my sixth year I believe, and I enjoy it. It starts my holiday spirit. I like to get to see the lights, it puts me in the mood for Christmas,” says Sue Martin, a participant of the race.
