DJ Dean McCullough has faced criticism from Alan Halsall’s Coronation Street co-star after their recent fiery interaction this weekend. The tension arose when Dean chose to take a nap instead of carrying out his camp responsibilities, creating an awkward atmosphere.
While Dean caught some sleep, camp leader Alan attempted to rouse him to assist Loose Women star Jane Moore in gathering firewood. Upon receiving no immediate response from the snoozing DJ, Alan questioned: “You don’t fancy it? No?”
Without any answer from the radio presenter, Alan decided to help Jane by himself. It wasn’t long before Dean awoke and joined in to help, yet he was noticeably irked by how Alan had tried to wake him up, reports The Mirror.
Confronting Alan, Dean made his feelings known, commenting: “Listen to me. If you’re going to wake me up, you need to give me a minute, alright? It takes me a couple of minutes for my contact lenses to get back working again, all right? So you don’t need to turn around to me and say, ‘Do you not fancy it? OK? ‘ And then turn around and walk away.”
The incident clearly didn’t sit well with Alan and his Coronation Street co-worker Andy Whyment has supported him. Talking to Lorraine on her show, the former I’m a Celebrity participant remarked about Deans comments in the Bush telegraph.
He said: “The bit that got me was when he was in the Bush telegraph and basically said ‘I was asleep and wee Tyrone from Coronation Street is standing over me’. I just thought that was a bit disrespectful. Al’s a 42-year-old man and the way Dean was speaking to him was a bit like a child.”
It wasn’t just Andy who had thoughts about Dean’s tone with Alan as presenting duo Ant and Dec also shared their views during an Instagram Live. Ant highlighted Alan’s passive aggressive nature but insisted he wouldn’t stand for such behaviour from Dean, he commented: “I wouldn’t stand for any of that… I would be like ‘shut-up’.”
The episode wasn’t short on drama with new entrants Maura Higgins and Rev. Richard Coles tackling the first eating challenge, vying for a junk food feast. As Danny Jones and Barry McGuigan ascended to camp leaders following a public vote, Alan and Tulisa Contostavlos found themselves ousted from the Leaders Lodge.
Talks of potential romance stirred as Andy commented on the budding friendship between Alan and Tulisa, noting: “Well they seem to be getting on really well, don’t they? We know they’ve been sharing the hideout at the top so I’m sure they’ve been having a few conversations there and obviously, they won the first trial together on the very first show.”
Andy added optimistically about the situation: “Listen, good luck to him. He’s obviously a single lad and I think Tulisa is single so we shall see what happens. Watch this space.”
Currently, Danny is the hot favourite to scoop this year’s I’m A Celeb title, with Coleen Rooney not far behind. William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps commented: “Coleen Rooney has been a notable mover in the outright betting for this year’s I’m A Celeb crown over the past few days.
“Rooney has seen her price quartered, as she was backed in from 10/1 to 5/2 over the weekend, edging ever-closer to market leader Danny Jones (EVS). Maura Higgins has also been popular with viewers and has been backed into 5/1 from 10/1. The same can’t be said for Dean McCullough, who, having received mixed reactions from the public after poor trial performances and a spat with Alan Halsall, has seen his odds fly out to 40/1.”
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! continues weeknights on ITV from 9pm.
