(WDBJ) – The deadline for FEMA applications is approaching. FEMA is encouraging Southwest Virginia residents impacted by Hurricane Helene to apply.
This is the last week to apply for the disaster relief. Applications are due by December 2.
So far in Southwest Virginia, FEMA has approved over $11 million to survivors of Helene with over 10,000 people registered.
FEMA officials say no matter how big or small the damage is, they still want impacted residents in any way to apply.
“As it’s getting colder out here in Southwest Virginia, people are turning on their heaters and they are using their homes a little bit differently and there are some damages that maybe weren’t discovered earlier on in the season that people might be coming to terms with. If you can see that this is something that was impacted by Hurricane Helene, please do consider applying,” said Amanda Hancher, a FEMA Joint Information Center Manager.
Once the application deadline is over, FEMA says it will still be out working with people in our area who submitted the application and inspecting homes.
Many disaster recovery centers will also remain open.
