CBS Sport presented Kate Abdo jokingly banned Micah Richards for talking about French side Brest during their Champions League coverage, because he couldn’t say their name without laughing.
And after an innuendo-strewn exchange between the other pundits left the former Manchester City star in stitches, he burst into tears of laughter and said ‘you’re trying to get me sacked!’ Richards is one of the most likeable pundits in the game and is known for his enthusiastic and lighthearted style. Brest, flying high in the Champions League, has an obvious English-language homophone and that wasn’t lost on Abdo, Richards, or fellow pundits Liverpool and Arsenal heroes Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry, when they discussed them live on air.
Host Abdo said: “We’re going to do a segment about Brest, but unfortunately Micah, you’ve consistently proved that you can’t stay professional in these segments when you’re talking about Brest. We’d like you to stay silent. Not a word, just silence, no laughs. Can we agree?”
Richards reluctantly agreed before the rest of the panel had their fun. “Who here likes Brest?” asked Abdo before a smiling Carragher raised his hand and said “I like the shape of them.” A string of innuendos followed – “Do you think Brest could get exposed tonight? I hope so!” finally broke Richards who jokingly asked: “What is this nonsense?! HR! You’re trying to get me sacked”
