Motherwell have offered refunds to fans who were unable to attend the club’s clash at Ross County – after the Staggies refused to reimburse out of pocket supporters.

Storm Bert wrecked havoc across the country on Saturday, with numerous games across the SPFL called off due to treacherous travel conditions.

The Steelmen’s clash in Dingwall did go ahead with both sets of players already in the Highlands 24 hours before kick-off, but plenty of Motherwell fans who had tickets for the game were unable to make the journey through no fault of their own. Around 300 supporters were able to attend the clash, which Motherwell lost 2-1.

Motherwell have released a statement saying they liaised with Ross County about refunds for supporters who mised out, but their Premiership rivals knocked them back.

The fan-owned club have now worked with the Well Society board to offer refunds to those hit by the weather.

A club statement read: “We can provide the following update with regards to ticketing for last Saturday’s match against Ross County.

“When the extenuating circumstances arose on Saturday morning, and with weather conditions only getting worse, we advised all supporters not to travel on the A9 to Inverness.

“Having clarified Ross County were not prepared to offer ticket refunds to those who were unable to attend the match despite buying a ticket, the club board engaged with the Well Society board immediately.

“Both parties felt the right thing to do was to offer ticket refunds to any supporter who could not attend due to the extreme weather/travel advice.

“We have now received the sales and entry data from Ross County and can move the process forward.

“If you were one of those who bought a match ticket(s) and couldn’t attend the game, and you wish to be refunded, please email [email protected] with your name and contact number clearly stated. Please note, only the person who purchased the tickets will be offered a refund.

“Our ticketing department will be in contact thereafter.”

Motherwell chief executive Brian Caldwell

Motherwell chief executive Brian Caldwell said: ” We felt this was the right thing to do in this instance. Lots of our supporters were left out of pocket, through no fault of their own. We’re a fan-owned club, and this is a spectator sport. We want to ensure supporters feel valued, and hopefully this is a small gesture they appreciate.

“Thank you to all who made the journey to Dingwall and to those who attempted it. I hope everyone returned home safely.”

Philip Speedie Chair of The Well Society added: “Putting fans first and at the heart of our football club is a key part of the Well Society’s purpose,”

“It’s great to see the club being so proactive – across the weekend, and today – with updates and this important gesture of goodwill. This news is a further sign of the Club, Society and wider stakeholders working together for our shared future.”
