One of the original stars of a hit Broadway musical has paid a visit to a Dumfries theatre school.
Christina Modestou is best known for originating the role of Anne Boleyn in SIX The Musical and has also stared in national tours of Shrek, Rent, Little Shop of Horrors and We Will Rock You.
And on Monday she popped in to Razzamataz Dumfries to inspire a new generation of performers with a Shrek-themed workshop.
Christina said: “I’m delighted to be returning to Razzamataz to teach current students work from a show I adore.
“I attended a part time performing arts club very similar to Razzamataz when I was younger and attending classes in dance, drama and singing prepared me for my life as a performer by giving me lots of varied styles, from musical theatre to straight acting.
“When you’re in the industry it’s better to have many strings to your bow. It also focused on the passion and love of performing, which inspired me to pursue it as a career.”
The workshop involved Razzamataz Dumfries students aged from nine to 18. Christina created different workshops based around Shrek the Musical, one of the Christina’s favourite shows to be a part of.
Razzamataz principal, Debbie Hyslop, said: “Working with industry professionals is a big part of what we do at Razzamataz. This will be incredibly inspirational for our students and shows what hard work and dedication can lead to.”
“We are passionate about the benefits of performing arts for all children and believe it is not only for those that want to go on and make a career on the stage.
“Performing arts stimulates all children’s creativity while improving their confidence and we have seen children overcome extreme shyness during the years.”
Razzamataz Dumfries classes are held on Mondays at Dumfries Baptist Church Centre and there are often guest workshops with performers from musical theatre and the commercial genres.
