A Ukraine bound lorry is to depart Perthshire later this week with 800 boxes of Christmas gifts.
The boxes are among humanitarian aid to be transported to the war-torn country in the 93rd lorry to leave TASH for Ukraine’s Errol Airfield base since the conflict began in February 2022.
It is the third winter that the team at the Perthshire charity have sent out Christmas gifts to Ukraine.
The 800 Christmas boxes were put together by volunteers.
TASH for Ukraine vice chairperson Deborah Ovens said: “Our volunteers have gone above and beyond bringing Christmas joy to children in Ukraine and adults too.
“It is an important and strong message that they have not been forgotten as they enter another harsh winter.
“We would like to thank every one very much who has taken part; it has been a huge community effort with our collecting hubs across Scotland involved.
“The Christmas-themed boxes were kindly donated by local Perthshire company ‘Highland Hampers’.
“Each box was created with attention, love by our wonderful volunteers, and hand made cards from local school children.
“The 800 boxes are filled with age and gender specific gifts – stationary, hats, gloves, toiletries, games, cuddly toys, books and the all important sweeties and chocolate.
“Local Scout, Brownie and school groups enthusiastically organised collections for us along with the kindness from many individuals.
“We were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and the festive cheer that we hopefully send to the children of Ukraine.
TASH for Ukraine is also calling for continued donations to provide aid over the harsh winter months.
Ms Ovens added: “We must now turn our efforts to Project Winter with the majority of Ukraine having no power or heat for large parts of the day, conditions are dire.
“We support people who have been forced to leave their homes, sometimes they are injured and have had to leave with nothing.
“We cannot turn our back on our neighbours in Ukraine.
“If people can help in any way it would be very much appreciated.
“We are asking for dried food, canned food, tea/coffee, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, thermal socks, thermos, candles, baby milk, baby nappies and baby wipes.
“Together we are making a difference, and we must keep doing what we are doing.”
There are collection points across Perthshire and throughout Scotland.
