Children at Cargenbridge Primary School were tasked with designing a toy which moves as part of this year’s World Quality Day Project.
The school was pleased to be working in partnership with Mylar Speciality Films and those children who had not visited the site made a visit to see what their working environment was like in comparison to their school environment.
As part of the challenge, the children worked in mixed age groups to create their toy then they presented their work to the judges from the company.
Working with the company as part of World Quality Day yet again enhanced the children’s learning in an interesting and challenging way. This year they focused on meta skills and in particular communicating, leading, adapting, creativity and critical thinking. All the children entered into this challenge with enthusiasm to ensure that they produced quality work and every group used important skills for life, learning and work.
The children had to show good teamwork skills throughout their task. They had to plan it, do it, then review their work. Some members of staff from the company came into school to watch the teams working together and they had the hard job of judging the toys. The judges were so impressed with all the work the children had produced and how confident they were when presenting. They awarded a variety of awards, such as best teamwork, best leader, special recognition awards, most creative toys, most effective communicator and an overall winner – a very hard decision for the judges.
The quality of their work produced was excellent and the judges commended everyone for this. The winners were announced in front of the whole school at a special celebration event where the winning groups showed their toys to everyone.
The winners of the overall best design was The Campers’ Isla, Jenson, Cassie, Phoebe and Rowan. Their winning toy was a toy caravan, so well done to them. Parents and family members were welcomed into the school to see all the toys.
To acknowledge all the hard work and their participation, the school was given a very kind gift of Visualisers for each class. This partnership has been once again a great success and will take place again next year to celebrate World Quality Day. This is a great way for the school to develop skills for life, learning and work and to work towards developing our young workforce. The children are extremely proud of all their efforts. Well done everyone.
