Comedian Chris McCausland wowed audiences with his impressive footwork on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, but he had a slightly embarrassing moment in front of a star from Wicked.
Dancing alongside pro Dianne Buswell, Chris has been consistently upping his game week after week, winning over the nation who’ve eagerly voted to keep him in the competition.
On the November 22 instalment of The Graham Norton Show, Chris shared the sofa with A-listers such as Nicole Kidman, Cynthia Erivo, and James Norton.
West End sensation Cynthia was chatting about her part in the upcoming Wicked film. After she revealed how Wicked is adjacent to The Wizard of Oz, Chris quipped: “It’s Wonka, but for Oz.”
Hollywood’s James Norton appeared puzzled and remarked: “I’m still not getting it,” which led Chris to jokingly refer to Cynthia saying, “She’s not buying this at all.”
Cynthia shot back: “I’m letting you have that one. So Wonka was the origin story of Willy Wonka. So Wicked, which I will say has been around for 20 years, so this came before Wonka.”
Graham Norton swiftly tried to defuse the banter, quipping: “Back off Chris McCausland,” as the guests and audience erupted into laughter at the humorous exchange, reports the Express.
The show also saw Chris opening up about his extraordinary journey on Strictly and his experiences dancing at the famous Blackpool Tower ballroom. He shared: “Being at Blackpool was wonderful it’s like the Wembley of ballroom dancing. I’m actually surprised I’m still in it. It was perfect and I celebrated like I’d won the FA cup!”.
Discussing his unique approach to learning the choreography due to his visual impairment, he elaborated: “When we started, we didn’t have a clue how we would do it so decided to wing it and see what happens.
“I had never been taught to dance and she (Dianne) had never taught anyone that couldn’t see.”
“She sometimes describes what needs doing, sometimes I have to get on my hands and knees and figure out what she is doing with her legs and feet, and sometimes she picks a part of me and put it where she wants it.”
“I’m like a bendy Spiderman! But whatever it is we are doing it is working.”
Wicked is in cinemas now. Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7:05pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
