An award-winning Lanarkshire business has been celebrated at the Scottish Parliament with MSPs raising a toast to their recent industry success.
Carrigan’s restaurants was named independent multiple operator of the year at the Scottish Licensed Trade News awards, and now Clare Haughey – whose constituency includes the Blantyre branch – has lodged a motion of congratulation at Holyrood.
The family firm, who also have restaurants in Hamilton and East Kilbride, say they are honoured to have been recognised at the parliament as they celebrate their award win.
Ms Haughey’s motion notes that the industry awards “recognise the achievements of businesses that have demonstrated their commitment to excellence and a passion for hospitality”, and that Carrigan’s “started in Blantyre and was built up over decades by the Carrigan family”.
She added that it continues to “develop its reputation as a much-loved choice known for friendly service, a warm welcome and close links to the local community”, and congratulated staff on their award achievement.
The motion has so far gained the support of 18 MSPs from across the parliament, including Central Scotland colleague Monica Lennon.
Owner Barry Carrigan called the Holyrood recognition “an incredible honour” and said: “This acknowledgment is a tribute to our hard-working team and the loyalty of our customers, who inspire us to always deliver our best.
“We’re proud of our roots and look forward to continuing to serve our communities with the same passion that has brought us here.”
The company added: “Winning the SLTN award was a momentous achievement, celebrating Carrigan’s as a leader in hospitality innovation and customer experience, and with the success now celebrated in parliament, it cements the position of Carrigan’s as a leader in Scotland’s hospitality industry and a cherished local institution.
“The motion highlights the family’s journey, emphasising their role as a beloved local business and a vital part of the community, and the recognition celebrates Carrigan’s strong community ties, with venues that are more than just restaurants – they are meeting places for friends, families and neighbours.
“Carrigan’s remains committed to enriching the lives of the people they serve and is focused on building on their legacy, expanding their offerings, and continuing to provide the high-quality experiences that have made them a household name, and continue to bring substantial economic investments and employment opportunities to local communities.”
