BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The Graham High School state tournament football game at Mitchell Stadium Saturday afternoon has meant a delay in opening Bluefield’s Holiday of Lights that evening.
Felicia Holcomb, with the city, said the drive-through light display at City Park will not open until 7 p.m.
Graham’s game against Union in the regional football state tourney begins at 2 p.m. and the delayed opening at the nearby Holiday of Lights from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. should allow enough time for traffic to be cleared from the Mitchell Stadium parking lot after the game.
The official opening of the Holiday of Lights is on Thanksgiving Day at 6 p.m. and long lines are expected this weekend for the massive display featuring more than 1.5 million lights.
Other than Saturday night, the display will open at 6 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights and open at 6 p.m. and close at 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.
Graham is undefeated at 12-0 and Union (Big Stone Gap) is 9-3.
GHS is trying to repeat as state champs in Class 2.
