With December almost up on us, workplaces across the nation are beginning to embrace the festive spirit.
However, one office’s attempt at holiday cheer has been dubbed the “most depressing ever” after a photo of its dismal decorations was posted online.
A Reddit user shared: “Fiancée just sent me a picture of her work office’s Christmas decorations. I think it’s the most depressing thing I’ve ever seen.” The decoration in question was a two-foot tall, sparsely decorated Christmas tree placed atop the workplace’s communal fridge.
With no baubles in sight, the sorry festive display only featured a star on top and fibre optic lights forming the ends of the tree’s branches. One Reddit user tried to find a silver lining at least, commenting: “The lights look pretty cool at least.
“At my work we just had someone’s nan’s old fake tree in a corner of the workshop with no decorations whatsoever. Eventually we nabbed some tinsel from the office, along with a stuffed Tigger dressed as an angel that we put on the top. Then we jazzed it up with some jubilee clips.”
A second Redditor added: “Less is more? We have a similar sized thing but a real tree (more like a small shrub). Had it three years. Comes in for Christmas and we decorate it. Rest of the year lives on the balcony quite happily and cared for. Being small is easily manageable and beats the ‘throw away culture’ of one use Xmas trees.”
A third joked: “If you empty the hole punch tray into the air conditioning unit it will improve the festivity.” Whilst a fourth remarked: “Imagine having to look at that for two months.”
However, coming to the tree’s defence, another person confessed: “I have the same tree in my flat, and three little Christmas windowsill ornaments. I spend the festivities mainly at my parents’ so I don’t bother jazzing my place up too much.”
This prompted a further clarification from the original poster, who added: “The tree in itself isn’t the issue I don’t think. The whole picture is. It’s just on top of a fridge next to the fruit juice under an air con. I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just miserable.”
