WYTHE COUNTY, Va. – There’s been controversy surrounding some of President elect Donald Trump’s cabinet picks and Virginia Representative Morgan Griffith shared his thoughts on some of those picks on Tuesday before he participated in the United Way’s celebrity bagging event in Wytheville.
Griffith represents Virginia’s 9th congressional district which includes Tazewell County. WVVA asked Griffith his thoughts on three of Trump’s cabinet picks.
Pete Hegseth, who is Trump’s pick for Secretary of Defense has sexual assault allegations against him. Griffith said Hegseth’s situation is unfortunate and emotional and says although no charges have been filed the senate will decide to confirm Hegseth as the pick or not.
Griffith said he was looking forward to working with Trump’s pick for the Secretary of Health and Human Resources, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“As a member of the energy and commerce committee we have jurisdiction over most of his agencies. Look, there’s going to be some ideas that he throws out there that won’t work, I get that,” said Griffith. “But we need a disruptor in Washington. We saw that with COVID, the CDC, FDA, NIH. They all had issues during that. We need to shake things up a little bit and make some changes so I’m kind of excited about that one.”
Griffith also shared his thoughts on Tulsi Gabbard who is Trump’s pick to be the Director of National Intelligence. Gabbard has been accused by Democrats of being compromised due to comments in support of Russia but Republicans have pushed back.
Griffith said he worked with Gabbard in the house of representatives and believes she will do a “fine job.”
