Lyle Menendez is reportedly now dating a 21-year-old college student after ending his more than two-decade-long marriage to Rebecca Sneed.
Despite the separation, Sneed is standing by the convicted killer as he and his brother await resentencing for the 1989 murders of their parents, Jose and Kitty Menendez.
An insider with knowledge of the situation told People on Tuesday that “Lyle and Rebecca have been broken up for a while,” insisting that rumors of a cheating scandal are totally false.
The source, however, did confirm that 56-year-old Menendez is now involved with 21-year-old Milly Bucksey, of Manchester, England, though she’s “only visited him once in jail.”
It’s unclear when exactly Menendez and the British woman got together, but the romance reportedly started after she wrote to him in prison.
Sneed, who married Menendez in 2003, confirmed their split last week, clarifying their breakup was not caused by cheating.
“Lyle and I have been separated for a while now but remain best friends and family,” she wrote in a post to his official Facebook past last Thursday. “I continue to run his Facebook pages, with input from him, and I am forever committed to the enduring fight for Lyle and Erik’s freedom, as has been so evident over the years.”
Sneed vowed to update followers on how the case progresses and to “never stop fighting” for Lyle and 53-year-old Erik, the latter of whom has been married to wife Tammi since 1999.
On Monday, a judge postponed the Menendez brothers’ resentencing until January 2025, after technical difficulties threw a wrench in their planned virtual hearing.
Lyle and Erik were convicted of first-degree murder and given life sentences without parole for the 1989 deaths of their wealthy parents. The brothers were 21 and 18 years old at the time of the killings.
Though they were notoriously accused of murdering their parents for money, their lawyers claimed they acted in self-defense, believing their parents would kill them if they exposed their father’s years of alleged sexual abuse.
The divisive case entered the media fray once again after the brothers’ lawyers filed a petition last year saying “newly discovered evidence directly supports the defense presented at trial.”
