A “unique” opportunity to zip slide across Strathclyde Park loch will form part of a fun-filled festive extravaganza in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice.

The Airdrie charity, who provide specialised palliative care to people living with life-limiting illnesses, and support for their loved ones and carers, will host Santa’s Zippity Doo Dash at the park on December 8.

To help provide essential care this Christmas, the hospice has teamed up with Active NL and Santa Claus himself to involve more than 200 runners, joggers or walkers around the Lanarkshire park.

The runners will take on a timed 5km run at 9am, with an interactive walk around the park starting at 10.30am.

The latter will include finding a Gingerbread person, grabbing a selfie with an elfie, a Rave with the Hospice Reindeer , Find The Grinch and even a visit from Santa.

There will even be a unique opportunity to zip slide 1000 feet across Strathclyde Loch, which is open to anyone over the age of 12.

This will be the second ever hospice zip slide and it has been made possible thanks to the “wonderful support” of DMI Fire & Security, while the tenth annual Santa Dash is again being supported by “the incredible team” at AMEY.

Andy Flynn, the hospice’s schools and communities development co-ordinator, told Lanarkshire Live: “We are all so excited to get the Christmas period started with Santa’s Zippity Doo Dash .

“Everyone who takes part will get their very own Santa costume or reindeer antlers on arrival, so no matter the weather, everyone can join in with the fun.

“A huge thank you goes to the amazing supporters of this event; DMI for sponsoring the zip slide, AMEY for sponsoring the Santa Dash and AS Scaffolding for donating their time and resources to set up the landing zone.

“Every penny really does make difference.”

The Santa Dash registration is £10 per person, which includes a Santa suit/reindeer antlers, meeting Santa, reindeer dust, a candy cane, an elf treat, snowballs, dog biscuits from The Grinch , a finisher’s medal and either a selection box or warm drink; groups of four can get a special rate of £30.

Registration for the zip slide costs £25, including a Santa Suit, special medal and speedboat trip on the loch to get to the zip slide area
