A “cosy” and “extraordinary” lodge on Scotland’s ‘whisky’ island is currently available to book on Airbnb.
Islay is the most southern of the Inner Hebrides, home to a population of around just 3,000. It is known as the country’s ‘whisky‘ island due to its various distilleries that produce characteristically peaty single malts.
At the moment, a one-of-a-kind turf-roofed self catering lodge is available on Airbnb for £195 per night. The architect-designed accommodation is nestled into the hillside, with views out over the water to the iconic Laphroaig distillery.
Stepping inside, the lodge features a Scandinavian-influenced design. It includes a large king-size bedroom and a kitchen space with a top-of-the-line Miele oven and induction hob.
The accommodation also benefits from underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove. With temperatures across Scotland plummeting, both provide much-needed warmth.
At the moment, the accommodation has a perfect score of 5.0 on Airbnb based on 308 reviews. It is classed as a ‘guest favourite’, meaning it is in the top five per cent of listings on the site based on ratings and reviews.
One recent guest shared: “We had a perfect stay at Tigh Na Uiseag! The location is absolutely stunning, with breathtaking views over Port Ellen Bay that you could admire all day.
“The cottage itself is warm, cozy, and spotlessly clean, with every detail thought of. The welcome pack was a lovely touch, and the kitchen is fully equipped and modern, making it easy to prepare meals during our stay.”
A second posted: “Such a beautiful and unique property with an incredible situation. I don’t think we will ever stay anywhere else quite as special!
“The view and the sense of space is extraordinary. We really appreciated the high end toiletries and superb quality towels, and the very kind provision of a breakfast pack and beverages.”
Meanwhile, a third Tripadvisor user wrote: “Beautiful location. It was very peaceful and relaxing!
“The host keeps the place spotless and provides beautiful kitchenware for cooking and dining.”
If you are looking to spend a few days on Islay, but the lodge does not appeal, there are plenty of more traditional options to choose from. These include the four-star Islay Hotel in Port Ellen and The Lochside Hotel & Restaurant in Bowmore.
