Students from West Lothian College took over the kitchen and restaurant at the Scottish Parliament to whip up an outstanding meal for MSPs.

The students from the college’s Level 5 and 6 Professional Cookery course presented a sumptious six-course tasting menu at Holyrood on November 19.

The menu included a smoked salmon frittata, pork and black pudding wellington and sticky figgy pudding.

And it went down a storm with politicians and partliament staff.

Local MSP for the Linlithgow Constituency, Fiona Hyslop, attended the evening.

She said: “I was pleased to attend the Holyrood Dining Room in the Scottish Parliament where Level 6 Professional Cookery from West Lothian College cooked and served an excellent tasting menu.

“The six-course tasting menu included a smoked salmon frittata, pork and black pudding wellington and sticky figgy pudding.

“The students from West Lothian College not only cooked a wonderful meal but also provided excellent service and I hope benefitted from the experience and talking to the Parliament’s chefs.

“Congratulations to the staff and students involved in serving delicious, flavoursome food, so well-presented and served by the attentive waiting staff.”

The college said the evening had been a great experience for student, who also got to learn some tips from chefs at the parliament.

Lynn Bain, director of Business, Creative and Enterprise at West Lothian College, said: “We are thrilled that our talented Level 5 and 6 Professional Cookery students had the honour of returning to the Scottish Parliament this year to deliver a six-course menu, which went down a treat.

“Many thanks to Stuart Rose and the entire team for providing this opportunity.

Experiences like these are pivotal for our students, allowing them to develop their skills, and showcase their talents.

“Working alongside the Parliament’s chefs has also given them real-world experience that will help them in their future careers.”
