MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVLY/Gray News) – A Minnesota boy who suffered swelling and damage to his brain after spiking a fever of nearly 106 degrees has died.

According to his mother, Zaydan came down with what appeared to be a normal sickness, but it took a turn for the worse.

She was sharing her 5-year-old son’s condition on social media and said that Zaydan ended up dying on Wednesday.

“My sweet boy. Zaydan mama loves you forever and I’m so sorry. I would give anything to have you back to me,” she shared. “You will be saving other lives and will carry on through them. My world is shattered. RIP sweet Zaydan.”

According to a family friend, Brooke Kuss, Zaydan got sick last Friday while spiking an extremely high fever very quickly that got as high as 105.7 degrees. He ended up having a seizure that led to major swelling and damage to his brain.

Kuss said in a GoFundMe made to benefit Zaydan and his family that doctors were monitoring his condition.

“We were told if Zaydan even survived, they don’t think he would ever come off a vent and told us we need to think of the quality of life for him,” Kuss shared.

Hen House Bar & Restaurant held a fundraiser on Tuesday to also raise money for Zaydan and his family.

“We took 15 percent of our food and soda sales and donated them towards the cause. Sometimes it’s dog rescues, sometimes it’s sports teams, but this was for Zaydan,” Gene LaVoy, Hen House owner, said.
