Police have launched a probe after a car was found burnt-out on a busy path in Edinburgh.
Connor Gartland, 28, was on his way to work on Thursday when he saw flashing lights on the old railway cycle path at Lochside Place. The 28-year-old, who shared images of the wreckage with Edinburgh Live, says he was told by a police officer at the scene that it was caused by “joyriders”.
The pictures show an upturned vehicle on the pathway, which is primarily used by cyclists and walkers travelling between Leith and Restalrig. Police tape can be seen to have been stuck to the remains of the car.
Connor said: “I was on my way to work and I saw blue lights. I wondered what was going on and then I saw police and tape and boom a burnt out car on its back. I asked the police what happened they said ‘just a bunch of joyriders’.
“I had to get off the path to let the recovery team through. It made me late for work. I was raging. This is the second car on this cycle path in the last month or two.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.15am on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 we received a report of vandalism at a premises on Lochside Place, Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing.”
