(CNN) – Nearly 11,000 cartons of organic eggs sold at Costco stores in several states are being recalled due to a potential risk of salmonella contamination.
Handsome Brook Farms is voluntarily recalling 10,800 units of organic eggs that were sold under the Kirkland Signature brand. The recall is due to a potential risk of salmonella contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs were distributed to 25 Costco stores in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee starting last Friday.
The recalled eggs have a UPC code of UPC 9661910680, the Julian code 327 and a use by date of Jan. 6. The use by date can be found printed on the side of the plastic egg carton.
So far, there are no reports of anyone getting sick.
Salmonella can cause serious or fatal infections in young children, the elderly or others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
People who have the eggs should either throw them out or return them to the store for a refund.
