Janey Godley’s daughter has said that “everyone is welcome” as the late comedian passes through the streets of Edinburgh for the final time.
Ashley Storrie shared an update ahead of her mum’s final farewell which will see the funeral cortege travel along the Royal Mile tomorrow, Edinburgh Live reports.
Ashley said: “Hello friends, Ashley here. This weekend is mum’s funeral. I’ll be heading to Edinburgh tomorrow to watch her car travel the royal mile.
“I’m sure I’ll see some of you there and then on Saturday her funeral is in Glasgow. You’re all welcome. It’s what she wanted.”
Ashley previously shared information about Janey’s “final tour” as well as sharing details of her funeral in Glasgow on Sunday.
Tomorrow the hearse carrying the iconic funny-woman will start at the capital’s Lawnmarket before travelling down the Royal Mile towards St Giles Cathedral.
Ashley wrote online: “Janey will have one last visit to Edinburgh – her beloved Festival Home. At 2.30pm, her hearse will travel from Lawnmarket, heading down the Royal Mile towards St Giles Cathedral where we will pause for reflection.
“Then carry on to Cockburn Street, Market Street and home to Glasgow.
“Saturday 30th November – Janey’s funeral service is at 10am at St Mary’s Cathedral, Great Western Road, Glasgow.
“Hearse and coaches will leave the cathedral at 11.30am and proceed along Great Western Road towards the crematorium. The service at the crematorium will be private.
“For the past few years of Ma’s life, it was important to her that she shared her journey with everyone, to offer support for others on the same path and to highlight the symptoms of Ovarian Cancer – all of course in her very singular Janey style, with laughter and candour.
“So many of you who have travelled with us on this journey wish to bid her a final farewell, so here’s the details of my mum’s final tour, in the two cities she loved with all her heart.”
Janey passed away surrounded by loved ones at the Princess of Wales Hospice on November 2. The stand-up comic was remembered for her hilarious impressions of Nicola Sturgeon during the Covid pandemic.
