Throughout December, customers can participate in events like breakfast and coffee at various stops, fare pass giveaways and a social media contest.

AUSTIN, Texas — CapMetro has announced an event to celebrate the holiday season.

The service’s “Magic of Transit” event will include a number of customer appreciation events throughout the month of December. The events include breakfast and coffee at various stops, fare pass giveaways on select surprise routes and a social media contest.

The first event is the social media contest, which begins Dec. 1. Customers who take a selfie of them riding a CapMetro bus or train, post it to social media with the hashtag #MagicOfTransit and tag CapMetro will be entered for a chance to win one of three prizes:

  • A Grand Prize, which includes a yearlong Commuter Pass, good for both bus and rail, worth about $495, along with CapMetro merchandise and free tickets to the Paramount Theater.
  • A Second Place Prize, which includes a 31-day Commuter Pass good for bus and rail, along with CapMetro merchandise and free tickets to the Paramount Theater.
  • A Third Place Prize, which includes a 7-day Commuter Pass good for bus and rail, along with CapMetro merchandise and free tickets to the Paramount Theater.

Customers can enter up to four times over the course of a single week.

CapMetro will also stop at select locations and stations throughout December that will offer breakfast and coffee. The holiday pop-ups will be available on:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 3: CapMetro Stop at the University of Texas West Mall at 7 a.m. 
  • Thursday, Dec. 5:  MLK Jr. Station at 7 a.m. 
  • Wednesday, Dec. 11: Leander Station at 6 a.m. 
  • Monday, Dec. 16: Manor Park & Ride at 6 a.m. 

Workers will also pop up on select routes to distribute passes and CapMetro merchandise. They will be on the route on Dec. 4, Dec. 9, and Dec. 18. Throughout December, they will hand out a total of 600 passes, including both bus and rail passes. 

Anyone taking the Red Line on Dec. 14 can prepare to get festive and sing along to some holiday carols. The La Murga Band, the support section band for Austin FC, is riding the commuter train that evening to sing with riders and spread holiday cheer.
