What is Black Friday?
Black Friday is a yearly sales event that has become synonymous with major retailers offering major savings at the end of November.
There are many origins of the actual holiday itself, with some suggesting that it originated with the financial crisis in the US in 1869. It was also associated with the post-Thanksgiving workforce absences.
While it was once largely associated with just the US, Black Friday made its way to the UK in 2010 and has become the biggest shopping event of the year, overtaking the Boxing Day sales post-Christmas.

When is Black Friday 2024?
While many early deals have been available for a few weeks now, Black Friday is officially tomorrow, November 29.
It’s also not just a one-day event, as many retailers continue their sales throughout the entire weekend. This then leads into further discounts on Cyber Monday, which will be December 2 this year.
