Coronation Street residents are set to be hit with some tragic news, as characters unite in their grief.

Les Battersby is being written out of the show in a shocking storyline, and future episode spoilers suggest there might be more to his death than meets the eye. Leanne Battersby, Toyah Battersby, and Fiz and Chesney Brown are all devastated by the loss.

In Friday’s episode, it was hinted that Chesney would form a bond with Les’ daughters, Leanne and Toyah, over their shared grief for Les, ahead of some suspicious scenes next week. However, those who have already watched Friday’s episode on ITVX may have noticed Chesney discussing his relationship with Les.

He referred to him as ‘Uncle Les’ twice before revealing his connection to Bernie Winter. He then admitted they had grown apart and hadn’t been in regular contact for years, with Les leaving Coronation Street when Chesney was just a child.

So, what exactly is the connection between the two, and is Chesney related to Leanne or Toyah?, reports the Mirror.

Chesney actually became close to Les years ago when he was a child, and when Les started dating Chesney’s mother Cilla, he became his stepfather.

Les later decided to adopt his stepson, forming a family unit with Chesney, Les, and Cilla, along with Chesney’s dog. Unfortunately, Les and Cilla eventually split up, and both characters left the street separately.

Chesney is not biologically related to Les’ daughter Leanne, while Toyah was Les’ stepdaughter through his relationship with her mother Janice Battersby. Leanne’s mother was Stella Price, and Toyah’s father was Ronnie Clegg.

Leanne didn’t maintain much contact with Les after he left the show, she did message him and speak with him but rarely saw him. The same seems to be true for Toyah, with Les not being mentioned.

On Friday, Chesney confides in Bernie that he and Les weren’t close, after they became estranged. Despite not being in contact for some time, Chesney still had a fondness for the character and often referred to him as Uncle Les.

Despite his past connection to Toyah and Leanne, the characters rarely appear onscreen together and are no longer that close. Friday’s episode brought them back together again to mourn for Les, with them also appearing in scenes together next week.

Spoilers indicate that Chesney becomes suspicious when they are told that the abattoir where Les worked has offered £50k in compensation for his death. However, there’s one condition – they must all sign an NDA.
